 Camping in Munnar.

A Camping trip was  one of my dream trip. To be precise a very long time dream of tent camping in mountains. We were four and were traveling by car. The nearest destination is Munnar ,so we pick out Black Eagles Camp, which is one of the best camping in Munnar. Munnar is a touristy town located in the Western Ghats mountain range of Kerala.  A hill station surrounded by tea plantation. Munnar is not just a summer palace for travelers. It’s the place for road trips, camping, trekking and perfect spot for photographers. The winter months are by far best time to visit Munnar .The weather mostly stay pleasant throughout the year.You can plan a Munnar trip when ever you wish.The Monsoons are avoided by tourist but monsoon in Munnar is of different vibe.You can experience a different charm of lush greenery here.I had visited Munnar many times, but this one is favorite for me. Black Eagles Camp is located in the Harrison Malayalam plantation, Suryanelli. This is the highest camp in all the Western Ghats at the height of 2100 meters.

Day One

We started from home by 11 am but as usual reached the base camp so late. Somewhere near the base camp we got stuck due to some road works. I don’t really know what it was but it took around an hour and we missed the epic sunset. We parked our car in the base camp and jump on the jeep for 8 km off road ride to reach camping site. Those 8 km was fun. We four, two other people from the camp, driver and lots of groceries through the rocky trails. Finally we reached the camp site. It was dark by then. Missed the sunset but it was so foggy and cool. There was no other tourist .Luckily the camp site was for us that night.

Sunrise Trek to Kolukkumalai

The camp  was super comfortable and clean. A living space with around twenty tents and bathrooms. We had cozy dinner with Barbeque, campfire and music. Our host was Mr Niyas and Charley .There hospitality was so great.Even though it was a long time dream i never had an idea how it will be. Was so anxious about sleeping in a tent on ground in woods, about reptiles but the camp was beyond my expectation. It was a full moon night. The sky, the moon, the fog everything made my night. The tents  was double occupancy with separate sleeping bags. I fall asleep quickly to the heartbeat of nature,the best music ever.

Day Two

We had a wake up call at 5 am for sunrise trek. For me it was a waking up with a purpose.Got up, freshen up and started the trek. The moon was still above us and it disappears as we trek to the kolukkumalai. It was a moderate trek. Everyone can go for it even beginners. The hike was so pleasing through the lush scenery that has ever seen. There was  leached everywhere though out the trail .Most scariest thing for me. I was so careful but i got a bite and still have its make on my feet. The sky became clear as we hike towards up. There was many tourists from other campsite at the sunrise view point. The view was stunning and breathtaking. Everyone was waiting for the sunrise. It was so misty and started pouring. Sun doesn’t show up as we expected. Again we missed out epic sunrise. Everyone started moving. We stayed there for a while and clicked pictures and sat there to enjoy the nature. The Birdseye view of the mountains are breathtaking. The place was untouched by man. We started our hike down. That was an experience of life time. We hike down through a different trail through plantation and reached camp site through its front part.

Breakfast

Well,This is the time when i saw the campsite in full. Last evening was so fogy the visibility was less. . We got freshen up .First time bathing in a roofless bathroom. It was safe, secured and experienced well. We had a walk through the campsite ,had breakfast, took photos, spend an hour relaxing in the tower. The view here is picturesque. They were setting up a rope way down to the base camp above the green tea plantation .By 11 am we checked out .They took back us to the base camp in jeep and taken to few places like waterfalls, Tea factory. Way back I enjoyed the day before 8 km off road ride with scenery. I would highly recommend Black Eagles camp, to satisfy your camping and trekking love with great hospitality and with affordable tariff . One of the best places for trekking  and camping in Munnar

Some of the other tourist spots where you can visit while on the go  are Eravikulam National Park, Chinar Wildlife Jeep safari,Tea Museum, Waterfalls. Munnar can be reached through many transport options from any part of the country.The nearest airport is Cochin International Airport.
